Councillors follow suit

Tonight Monash councillors followed suit, performing back flips without the aid of a diving board. Congratulating the convenors and organisers of the public meeting was clever, but a comment that the public meeting was attended by an ex Oakleigh councillor "in his best suit" was especially insulting. The disclaimer “I was not influenced by the public meeting” when performing a back flip, should be as infamous as “I might lose my house” as a valid reason for not maintaining our pool. These people have every intention never to reopen our pool. This is what they have planned for some years. They believe they have fooled us. They believe we will relent, or become disinterested in time. Keep up your protests and show these politicians we will not be placated.

Hi everyone,

Obviously I left the meeting too early, but was quite heartened to receive the emails today informing me of the Council's decision last night. You are correct though, while things look a little more hopeful we have had our hopes raised and dashed before and we must be vigilant not to let it happen again. We must keep pushing, pushing, pushing. Some of these councillors are very canny and they know they can rely on the apathy and/or misplaced trust of a large section of their electorate - they will be counting on things dying down so they can slip in another motion buried deep inside a council agenda one night.
