Let's Move the Debate On!
Skip to menu| The meeting on the 3rd was great and showed the level of support in the community for the pool. I keep writing to councillors and getting bland, standard replies - this is getting frustrating and I am getting the impression they are just going through the motions. How can we get the Councillors to really think constructively about how the pool can be saved rather than just repeating the arguments about why it should be closed? How about asking - what needs to happen for you to change your minds? Where is the community support for closing the pool? Where is the community support for the alternative splash pool thingy? Can we get some real dialogue going between councillors and community rather than each side talking to a brick wall? I am committed to keeping the pool open and will stand in front of any bulldozers when the time comes but we need to move the debate on don't you think? Anybody have any ideas? | AnneB |
| Hi all, It seams to me that the best way to put pressure on councillors is to get their power base on side. We need to target other wards by campaigning in all shopping centres around the Monash area (a great school project for kids!) with pamphlets and people able to explain the community spirit behind the project. We also need to contact all clubs, schools, associations, etc. in the Monash area and perhaps beyond. A pool party at East Bentleigh could also be a great way of raising funds and community solidarity and spirit. Let the spring and summer be passionate! Thierry Moran | tmoran |
