Time to find a new council
Skip to menu| 20/7/06 I have sent the following to a few newspapers in the hope that they might publish it.I'm hoping the humour may raise a little interest. "Entire suburb free to good home! Oakleigh needs a new council. We will consider any offer. Any council that will maintain our pool, roads and library will do. Monash Council has increased our rates by 10% but still desperately wants to close our public pool. Would Ballarat or Bendigo like an outlying suburb? We're close to the CBD, and if you're quick we may still have some excellent facilities, great shopping and great people. Our present council haven't worked out how to take away our public transport, our police or our parks yet, so act now. Interstate enquiries welcome." Ian Jabornik | Ian Jabornik |
| Perhaps we should approach Stoonington Council, just across Warrigal Road. Look how they treasure Prahran Pool. www.stonnington.vic.gov/lifestyle/sport/aquatic/pac | Julie C |
| dear ian re oakleigh pool. a friend has sent me details . I think that the monash council are making a huge mistake in not making a budget allocation over a few years to allow something costing say 20 million $ instead of 3.5M $. i was a councillor in 1982-5 in city of waverley precursor of monash, now on phone 9 9326 0961 .please ring say after 8 pm or before 8 am . pools all over australia are in strife, after 50 years they become obsolete, anything 50 years is obsolete electronics/computers double in power every 1.5 years , i think a solar heating roof, openable walls, 100m long swim lanes , a few off, a toddlers pool with slide, with modern technology even high diving boards might be ok electronics would not allow next jumper/diver to access board until space underneath free of preceeding person ie out of way and encouragement of oldies to swim is absolutely necessary. also the obesity of the population is rising out of control , swimming is a great gentle exercise which can control obesity . pricing should encourage 1 hour swim before / after work , ie requires long opening hours and a very long 50+ years design perspective. the site of oakleigh pool is i think ok , ive spoken to denise mcgill she bright and on the ball and would have clout in liberal party being former mp and councillornot sure of her current status . i was in labour party 20 years ago not since. | neville ford@yahoo.com.au |
