Skip to menu| Dear editor, As a member of the community life action group "CLAG" I am very disappoionted that Monash Council has not consulted our local community about their decision to close the Oakleigh pool permanently and demolish the historic diving tower. We consider council's failure to communicate with the local community over this very important issue to be in breach of their promises made to the community in 2002. Yours sincerely, Dear Editor, As a rate paying resident in the city of Monash I am appalled by the abrupt turn-around by Monash Council on Oakleigh swimming pool and historic diving tower. To be consistent with their stated principals of community consultation Council must act now to reverse their decision and carry out the wishes of the local community. Yours Sincerely, Dear Editor, As local resident and rate payer in the City of Monash I am outraged at the Council's failure to keep their promise to the local community to keep the Oakleigh pool open and 'invest in its long term future' (Council meeting of 19 March 2002). Council has had four years to put into practice its resolution of 2002 and has clearly done nothing to maintain or improve the Oakleigh pool. It is difficult to be anything but cynical about our 'sincere' local politicians - we will remember at the next elections which Councillors voted to close Oakleigh and which kept their word. Yours Sincerely, Dear Editor, The Oakleigh pool was built in 1959 by the citizens of Oakleigh who door-knocked and raised funds in every way imaginable. It is a hard earned community asset that deserves to be kept in the community. The grounds are unique in being crown land and having a number of heritage Oak trees and an historic diving tower. Monash Council has allowed this much loved community asset to degrade appallingly. How dare Council pretend to represent the residents of Oakleigh while voting to close a valued community facility? Yours Sincerely, Dear Editor, As a teenager living in the city of Oakleigh I am devastated by the Monash Council's broken promse to keep or swimming pool and diving tower open. We trusted Council and they have let us down. Yours in disappointment and disgust, | jlittle |
