About CLAG

CLAG, the Community Life Action Group, is a group dedicated to obtaining public opinion of facilities available in the Clayton and Oakleigh area, particularly with regard to sport, recreation and open space, and lobbying for the retention, improvement of such facilities, particularly when they are threatened by closure by Monash Council. In addition trying to ensure that Monash Council engages in meaningful community consultation.

CLAG (Community Life Action Group) was formed to help set up a public meeting to protest the proposed closure of the Oakleigh swimming pools and the Clayton Memorial swimming pools (and the Clayton Fitness Centre). the meeting was held on 4th March, 2002, a hot night, at Huntingdale Community Hall. At the time it was proposed to replace the Clayton with a multi-purpose complex, but without a swimming pool, except for a hydrotherapy pool.

Council made a historic decision on 19 March 2002 to keep both pools open, with Mayor Morrissey using his casting vote.

Of course a decision can always be changed and so vigilance is on-going.
